Philanthropy and Partners In Care
We appreciate every person who has given their time and talent to help us build a network of care around older adults. It is important for us to also ask our friends and supporters to give financially to sustain Partners In Care. We accomplish amazing things on our limited budget, but it does take resources to continue. You can be sure that your gift counts, and that it will be used carefully and creatively to support our mission.
Consider that in the FY ending June 30, 2012, we provided over 9,000 rides for people to medical appointments and grocery stores; we made over 500 small repairs to help people maintain their homes; we installed hundreds of pieces of safety equipment in homes, we held dozens of social activities to help people stay engaged and avoid isolation; we advocated to help a hundred people secure benefits they are entitled to, including paying utility bills; and we provided numerous supports to over-stressed caregivers and their families.
Home and community-based services, such as we provide, make people happier and healthier, and save thousands of dollars per year as people are supported in the homes and communities they love rather than in institutional settings. The approximate cost for PIC to provide supportive services for an older adult for a year ($645) is a fraction of the actual cost of the real services provided by PIC volunteer members, and a stunning value compared to the cost incurred by the government to care for an individual in a facility.
You can help us support the growing number of older adults in the community who are experiencing real hardship in this economy. You can make a real difference in peoples’ lives by donating to PIC. Here are some ways to contribute:
ANNUAL FUND Every fall we ask our friends in the community to contribute to our modest administrative, utility, insurance, and operating costs. Please give what you can when you recieve our appeal letter.
TAX CREDITS PIC has been awarded Community Investment Tax Credits in recognition of our importance to neighborhood and community stability and development. Individuals and businesses registered in MD can contribute $500 or more to PIC and receive credits to reduce their state taxes at the same time. Call for details.
ESTATE GIFTS You can specify PIC to receive funds from your estate as a way to acknowledge our importance to your life and independence. People give to PIC through their estate plans to “pay it forward,” to help sustain our programs into the future to benefit others, and to reduce tax liabilities.
GIFTS-IN-KIND Contributions of goods and services utilized on an ongoing basis help reduce our expenses.
MEMORIAL AND TRIBUTE GIFTS If you wish to commemorate a family member or friend, or show appreciation for a favorite PIC volunteer member, you can designate a gift “In Memory of..” or “In Honor of..” that person.
DONATE TO THE BOUTIQUE If you are moving or downsizing, donateyour top-quality clothing, furniture and housewares to the Boutique. It is particularly important to us to have donatinos of jewelry to support our major, annual fundraising event, the Jewelry Extravaganza, which is held each spring. Also, shop at the Boutique for treasures of all kinds. Your donations and purchases generate 30% of our entire budget.
GIVE THE GIFT OF A LIFT If you have a car, truck, motorcycle or boat you don’t need or use anymore, consider donating it to us. It’s easy and tax-deductible. We help with the title and paperwork.
HOST AN EVENT Organize a friend-raising and fund-raising event and name PIC the beneficiary. Have fun and also give back to the community.
