Partners In Care volunteer drivers traveled over 90,000 miles last year taking seniors to appointments at hospitals, physician offices, and treatment facilities of all kinds throughout Anne Arundel County, Baltimore and Washington.
Rides are provided in a personalized arm-to-arm manner. The driver picks up an individual at their front door, helps them into the car, drives to the facility, helps navigate through the labyrinth of a medical center if necessary, waits with them, then takes them safely back home again. Often the volunteer driver will stop for groceries, to pick up prescriptions, or to enjoy a social lunch. The bare minimum service of having a ride provided is enhanced by a kind social interaction.
Transportation is provided by individual volunteer members of PIC using their own vehicles. Normally, rides are provided to local health care offices and roundtrips are completed in a reasonable period of time, but some trips require the commitment of a volunteer’s entire day and a significant expenditure of fuel. Therefore, partial fuel reimbursement is available to drivers.

We always need drivers. Get involved! Support seniors in the community, meet wonderful new people, have fun, and earn ‘hours in the bank’ for the time when you might need a ride or a helping hand around the house.
Here’s how it works: You might want to drive on Tuesday mornings. We will call you 3-5 days in advance to ask if you can drive someone to an appointment on a Tuesday morning. If you can do it that day, it is arranged. If you can’t do it that day, we will simply call the next volunteer driver on the list and call you for another time when it might work with your schedule. Having the time and talents of a large pool of people to draw from allows for great flexibility.
